Mectron Offers New Systems for Testing and Gaging Fasteners Mectron Engineering Company, Saline, MI is excited to introduce three new inspection systems to their line of equipment. The FM1000 is a vision-based machine capable of inspecting basic fastener characteristics at speeds up to 500 ppm. The system is comprised of a high-speed magnetic belt presenting the part to the vision camera. The DVT camera and software package provides inspection for multiple features simultaneously: lengths, diameters, thread presence, foreign material, feature presence, washers, etc. Part Setups are saved and stored via the high-resolution touch screen into the computer for easy retrieval. This user-friendly design offers the customer accurate inspection at very high speeds with an affordable price tag. The FM1000's capabilities include headed products up to 127 mm in length and diameters up to an M14. Another of Mectron's recent developments is the implementation of today's most advanced hardware and software package into the new Q2500 and the Q5000. The Q-Series machines are taking on a new look with a single touch screen for both laser and eddy current components utilizing Microsoft Windows. The new touch screen will pivot 90° to provide customers with complete ergonomic operation. The Microsoft operating system combined with Mectron's comprehensive software provides unlimited set-up potential. Mectron's patented LSR-30 laser provides customers inspection capabilities to .0002" (.005mm) repeatability on diameters. The 100kHz LSR-30 laser is unmatched in the industry in scanning speed and inspection capability. The Q2500 is a laser only inspection system available in 6 or 8 laser configurations, and the Q5000 adds Mectron's MI9000 Magnetic Imagery eddy current for metallurgical inspection. Also, new for 2004, is Mectron's integrated laser crack detection. Laser crack detection is accomplished at Q5000 inspection speeds with 4 CCD vision cameras and laser illumination. Patented lasers are easily adjustable for plating and coating color variations. Changeover from part to part consists of predetermined laser settings and programmed set-ups stored in system memory. Mectron is pleased to introduce these new machines, and continue to offer the most advanced inspection systems available today.
